How to dodge the BIG crowds at the Victoria Peak Tram & Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car?

Tips for dodging big crowds at Victoria Peak Tram and Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

This post shares the simple ideas to dodge the big crowds of people at Hong Kong's Victoria Peak Tram & Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car with you.

As the major attractions of Hong Kong, Victoria Peak Tram and Ngong Ping 360 are always busy.

About 4 million people took the Peak Tram to go to enjoy the skyline and Victoria Harbour view in 2015. It is extremely busy in the afternoon and during sunset.

Although the number of passenger taking the Ngong Ping 360 to say hello to Big Buddha in 2015 dropped from 1.8 million to 1.6 million, the big crowds still exist.

The queuing arrangement for the two attractions is the same:

-You need to line up to buy the ticket first

-Then you need to line up again to wait for the tram compartment or cable car cabin

That means you need to wait for two times on a busy day!

Quite often, you need to wait for a long time......

When you can take the tram or cable car eventually, you feel very tired.

The crowds may disappear on the days with bad weather. So if you want to take the Peak Tram and Ngong Ping 360 easily, efficiently and comfortably, you need to......

GO EARLY

If you can go earlier than the locals, big package tour groups, individual travelers etc, you can get the ticket and take a seat in the compartment/cabin easily.

It is the simple idea, which everyone knows.

BUT can everyone do it? Traveling independently needs good planning and discipline.

SO what is the best timing?

For the Peak Tram, please go to Central's Garden Road Lower Peak Tram Terminus before 0930. (Please arrive even earlier on holidays)

For the Ngong Ping 360, please go to Tung Chung Terminus when it opens (1000 on weekdays, 0900 on holidays).

PAY EXTRA

If you arrive late, then you may still try the best to dodge the crowds by paying extra to buy something......

For the Peak Tram, you may purchase the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum ticket plus Peak Tram ticket package.

Then you can skip the long line for buying the Peak Tram ticket.

For the Ngong Ping 360, you may buy the crystal cabin ticket to dodge the ticket line of normal cabin.

BUT, there are lots of people want to do the above-mentioned things.

ALSO if there are a lot of people already, you still need to wait for the tram compartment / cable car cabin even you are holding the tickets.

As a last resort, you may pay a lot more to buy the Ngong Ping 360 private cabin ticket (Sadly, there is no 'Private Peak Tram service'.)

SO please go early!!! OR......

BOOK YOUR PRIVATE TOUR

With your private tour guide, you can directly proceed to the platform for the Peak Tram compartment / cable car cabin and really skip the ticketing and waiting line (The precondition is: follow the tour program and go early).

The private guide is the private guide. The private guide is not the VIP.

The private guide won't lead you to jump the line!

So the private guide just uses good time management to get the easy and enjoyable private tour experience.

Apart from the Peak and Big Buddha, you can even go to other interesting sightseeing points by the private car during your private tour.

For private tour planning, please contact Frank the tour guide.

You may consider the following private car tour options, which includes Peak Tram ride and / or Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car ride...

Three Hong Kong fusion foods

Three fusion foods of Hong Kong

Just share three Hong Kong fusion foods with you.

Fusion dim sum - Baked Barbecued Pork Bun

Traditionally, Chinese steam the flour dough with different fillings to make our bun.

The steamed barbecued pork bun (Char Siu Pao叉燒) is a Cantonese popular signature dim sum.

Hong Kong dim sum chefs learn from the Western bakery to make the baked barbecued pork bun(Char Siu Chan Pao叉燒餐).

With the honey on the top, it is even sweeter than the steamed one.

Fusion main dish - fried Udon noodle(炒烏冬麵)

The relationship between China and Japan is not always very good.

But the combination between the Chinese cooking style and Japanese Udon noodle is always tasty.

Japanese eat Udon noodle with soup mainly.

Hong Kong chefs just fry Udon noodle with meat / seafood and soy sauce.

Traditional Chinese fried noodle is crispy.

The fried Udon noodle is thicker and chewier.

Fusion dessert - mango pudding glutinous rice roll(香芒米卷)

The steamed flour roll with roasted pork or glutinous rice is the common dim sum.

Hong Kong chefs just show their creativity by combining the flour roll with mango pudding to make a fusion dessert.

The chewy flour roll and the sweet pudding make a memorable texture.

You can taste the above-mentioned fusion foods in Hong Kong’s local dim sum restaurants (further reading: 5 kinds of food you can taste in the Cantonese Restaurants).

We have private car tours with included local dim sum meals. For details, please browse:

Five Macau Travel Tips

Five tips of touring Macau

Lots of travelers want to go to Macau from Hong Kong. This blog post shares some tips of touring Macau with you.

Days to avoid

If you don’t want to enjoy the Macau Grand Prix in the third week of November, you may think twice before going to Macau in that period.

The Macau Grand Prix uses the street circuit.

The traffic control will cause serious traffic congestion in the city center.

You should also avoid going to Macau during The Labour Day Holiday in May, Chinese National Day in October and Chinese New Year.

Chinese guests will make Macau to be overcrowded.

Transportation from Hong Kong

Most people take the Turbojet to go to Macau.

You can take Turbojet at Hong Kong Island’s Shun Tak Center and Kowloon’s China Hong Kong Ferry Terminal.

Turbojet even offers the ferry service between Hong Kong Airport and Macau.

Turbojet runs frequenter than the Cotai Water Jet and brings you to the Outer Ferry Terminal, which is in Macau’s downtown.

Of course you can take the helicopter to Macau by paying more.

In about 2018, you can use the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge to go to Macau by car.

The bridge will make the Hong Kong and Macau full day private car tour, which covers the twin cities in one day, a possible option!

Identity document

As you (travelers from the Western countries) will ‘leave’ Hong Kong and go to another Special Administrative Region of China, Macau, please bring your PASSPORTS with the ARRIVAL CARDS.

BUT you are NO NEED to apply the visa in advance.

Currency

You can use Hong Kong Dollar in Macau.

If you don’t stay in Macau for long, you may just get some Macau Pataca as the souvenir.

Please note, you cannot use Macau Pataca in Hong Kong.

Things to do

The Oriental Monte Carlo has lots of casinos of course.

Apart from gambling, you can tour the Macau Heritage Center.

You can have a happy family day, enjoy a spa and enjoy good food in the resorts.

You can try the really traditional delicacies in the ‘OLD’ restaurants with long history for the locals .

The ‘NEW’ restaurants for gamblers from different part of China charge you the extreme high price but the food quality is below average.
